Terminator: Hunter Killer - sci-fi short film

I created and directed this short film in 2021 as a proof-of-concept, set in the future war of the Terminator-movie universe, as the humans struggle to survive in the post-apocalyptic wasteland following 'Judgment Day'.

Terminator: Hunter Killer is my 'love letter' and homage to James Cameron's classic 'The Terminator'. For many years I'd been disappointed that we'd never seen a faithful extension of the 'future war' glimpsed in the original 1984 movie and it's 1991 sequel 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day'; the horrifying, desperate fight for survival in a grim and haunting wasteland. This was primarily a personal challenge as to whether it was possible for me to capture the aesthetic and tone of the gritty, horrifying future we glimpse in these 2 movies, but using modern 3D visuals instead of the original practical models they’d have adopted back in the day. The admittedly loose narrative the short film has was a bit of an afterthought (I know, it shows).

Created entirely in Cinema 4D, predominantly using free 3D models. I built numerous vast post-apocalyptic environments, and many more intimate 3D ‘sets’. In addition to the 3D work, I directed the film and handled all lighting, photography, VFX, SFX, videoediting & music-mixing.

Thank you to the talented 3D artists on Sketchfab who generously made available many of their 3D assets for free - these were vital in me being able to realise my vision. And of course very special thanks to James Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd, Stan Winston, and everyone involved in the creation of 'The Terminator' & 'Terminator 2'.
